Consulting and Tutoring

I am available to come to your school to deliver Professional Development sessions in a variety of formats including staff meetings and teacher/student workshops. The sessions may be targeted to help your school start on a Structured Literacy journey. Alternatively, your school may have already started with Structured Literacy and need some help in tweaking the delivery of lessons, planning of lessons, organising of resources...the list is endless. I am here to help you make this journey slightly easier.

Private Tutoring Session

Tutoring is tailored to your child's needs. In a session we will cover reading, spelling and writing skills. I use a range of activities and games to keep up interest. 

Often children with specific learning needs are very tired after school hours which is why it is my preference to tutor during the school day. This may be

  • from my home in Birkenhead on the North Shore

  • at the student's school however this is something parents will need to arrange with the school. Please note, travel costs will be added for trips over 10km from my home office (Birkenhead).

Semi-Private Tutoring Session 
**Not available in 2024**

As with Private Tutoring, a programme will be tailored for your child's needs. Sessions have the same format as the Individual Tutoring option. The only difference is that there are 2-3 students working with me at the same time.

Students will be paired with other students who have similar literacy needs. This is a good option as it adds an extra dynamic and is usually reassuring for the student to see there are other people who learn the same way as they do.

Structured Literacy Parent Workshops.

I started running these workshops because my tutoring services are so difficult to get into and the waiting list is long.

These practical and hands-on  workshops are for parents who want to teach their child for 20-25 minutes each day at home.

  • Workshops run once a term. 

  • Workshops are broken into 4 sessions: a one-off assessment with your child, plus 3 evening parent-only workshops with other parents (maximum of 3 others in a group).

  • I will outline helpful Structured Literacy strategies so your child is getting evidence-based, targeted support from you at home.

  • I will guide you when choosing a scope and sequence for your child

  • I will show you resources you can either make inexpensively at home, or purchase.

You may wish to book in for a follow-up session at some stage so we can set new goals for your child.

Assessment

Before starting at Learning Legends, your child will need to have a comprehensive assessment. This assessment covers a range of skills necessary for reading and spelling. It will highlight strengths and weaknesses and allow me to build an individual programme for your child. Assessments take up to 1 hour. After the assessment is completed, I will write a report detailing my findings and you can share this with your child's teacher/school. 

Assessment cost includes time for me to analyse assessment results, write the report and tailor a programme for your child.
